I LOVE using images and text for my backgrounds ... it's a simple way to bring everything together. 
I colored my images with my Copics ... I just love those things.  I used a white gel pen to add highlights.
It took me a bit of time to squiggle over all the background text with my marker ... but it's all about the details.
This would be a great layout to use to create postcards.  Design a stack to take on your travels and send home as you go from place to place.  TIP:  Send them to yourself with highlights of each day.    When you get home you'll love having these mementos waiting for you.
